York Network for Action
on Medicare and Social Security
(NYNAMSS)
NYNAMSS
is a statewide coalition founded in 1998 by organizations and individuals
concerned about how to improve and strengthen the Medicare and Social
Security programs. At a time when these vital social programs are
under threat from privatization, the Network seeks to ensure that
these programs remain a fundamental part of our nation's social
insurance system.
Spotlight
on Rx Drugs
For
the last few years, the Network has been fighting for meaningful
legislation that would both expand coverage for prescription drugs
and bring down costs. This means a benefit that is:
- comprehensive, providing the medications that people's physicians
order as appropriate to their conditions, including all FDA-approved
medications;
- affordable to all New Yorkers, whether through purchasing pools
and/or pricing standards, and with subsidies for low-income residents;
- universal, simplifying programs to eliminate discriminatory
barriers and unnecessary administrative costs that undermine public
health goals;
- publicly
accountable, through public administration of benefits management
and financial controls.
